The woman had mild symptoms of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and has recovered from COVID-19.
Sources said that currently more than 90 percent of the cases of Covid-19 in the country are not serious and the infected people are living in isolation (quarantine) in their homes. Earlier, JN.1 infection was detected in an Indian traveler in Singapore. The man is a native of Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu and had traveled to Singapore on October 25.
Despite cases of infection from JN.1 being reported in Tiruchirappalli district or other places in Tamil Nadu, there was no increase in cases. “No other case of JN.1 variant has been reported in India,” the source said. The sub-variant JN.1 of Covid-19 was first identified in Luxembourg. This infection spread in many countries is related to Pirolo form (BA.2.86).

Speaking to news agency ANI, Dr NK Arora, Chief of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), said, “It was reported in November and this variant was isolated. It is a sub-variant of BA.2.86. “We have some cases of JN.1.”
He said, “India is monitoring and that is why no hospitalization or serious illness has been reported so far.”
According to ANI, Rajeev Jayadevan, co-chairman of the National Indian Medical Association Covid Task Force, said that after a gap of seven months, cases are increasing in India. There are reports of Covid in Kerala, but its severity seems to be less.
